NHHA's Summer Internship: A Glimpse into the Future

At National Healthcare and Housing Advisors (NHHA), our summer internship opportunities are designed to provide young professionals with valuable hands-on experience and develop skills that will shape their careers. This summer, we were thrilled to have two outstanding interns, Kate and Grant, join the team.  Their dedication, enthusiasm, and hard work have been truly inspiring, and it has been a joy to provide them with valuable learning opportunities in the healthcare and housing industries.  Here’s a closer look at their experiences and insights from their time at NHHA.

Meet Grant

Where are you from and what school do you attend/what is your area of study?

I am from Long Beach, California; I go to Purdue University, and I study Finance.

What are your main responsibilities and projects here at NHHA?

At NHHA, my main responsibilities and projects involve working closely with the business development team. I assist with financial modeling and conduct research, including market research, to support the team's strategic initiatives and decision-making processes.

What excites you or surprises you about the work that NHHA is doing?

What excites me about the work that NHHA is doing is the opportunity to apply the skills I've developed in school to real-world scenarios. It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that my efforts contribute, even indirectly, to helping people find the support and housing they need. Seeing my work make a tangible difference in people's lives is both motivating and rewarding.

What skills and knowledge have you gained during your time here?

During my time here, I’ve gained valuable skills in financial modeling, particularly in integrating Excel and AI to enhance these models. Additionally, I’ve had the opportunity to observe and learn from various meetings, which has deepened my understanding of how to execute and participate effectively in these discussions.

Meet Kate

Where are you from and what school do you attend/what is your area of study?

I am from Orange County, CA, and I go to Clemson University where I am majoring in Financial Management and minoring in both Accounting and Sustainability.

What are your main responsibilities and projects here at NHHA?

At NHHA this summer, I was a part of the finance and accounting team and kept up with all Accounts Payable as well as other ad hoc tasks the team needed help with.

What excites you or surprises you about the work that NHHA is doing?

I have gained so much knowledge while working with the team at NHHA. I learned about different software commonly used in accounting, and I gained a sense of the day-to-day work in finance and accounting. I was able to see firsthand the problem-solving and decision-making that goes into every financial decision, which I think is a priceless experience.

What will you remember most about your time at NHHA?

I will always remember the people I worked alongside here this summer. I met people with incredible people skills and passions. Everyone was so kind to me and would go out of their way to make me feel welcome and include me in discussions. I always enjoyed my conversations with everyone in the office and will continue to remember how enjoyable it was to go into the office each day.

Investing in the Future

“NHHA’s summer internship opportunities are not just about giving young professionals a glimpse into the industry; it’s about investing in the future,” says Erin Blagdon, Director of Business Development at NHHA. "We believe in the power of teaching and mentoring, ensuring our interns gain hands-on experience and develop skills that will shape their careers. Our commitment to learning and growth is a cornerstone of our company culture."

We always strive to provide an environment where our interns can thrive, learn, and make meaningful contributions. We are proud to know that the experiences Kate and Grant have had this summer will serve as a strong foundation for their future careers. We look forward to seeing the great things they will accomplish and are excited to continue offering such enriching opportunities to more young professionals in the years to come.
