International Women’s Day Highlight: National Healthcare and Housing Advisors

For International Women's Day, we turn the spotlight on the powerhouse women behind National Healthcare & Housing Advisors (NHHA), a pioneering organization on a mission to transform healthcare and housing for the most vulnerable. NHHA stands as a testament to what visionary leadership and unwavering commitment can achieve, led by women who navigate the complexities of the sector with grace and determination.

Terry Campbell, the Chief Operating Officer, is at the heart of NHHA's mission, steering the organization towards its ambitious goals. Terry's dedication to cultivating a positive work environment speaks volumes about her leadership style, valuing respect, empowerment, and teamwork. She shares a golden nugget of advice for women aspiring to leadership:

“My most key piece of advice is to ask someone or more than one person to mentor you, and to leverage those relationships. If you’re trying to better yourself, remember, there are no shortcuts to hard work.” — Terry Campbell

Karin Kalk, a Senior Advisor at NHHA, embodies innovation and improvement at NHHA and advocates for a healthcare system designed around the human experience. Her passion for redefining healthcare to be more compassionate and individualized demonstrates her commitment to change from within.

Aimee Cox, both a Senior Advisor and Interim Executive Director with sister-entity The Leon Institute, brings a rich background in technical assistance and community development along with a unique perspective to NHHA. Aimee's journey and her emphasis on dignity and quality in care highlight the intrinsic value women add to the healthcare narrative:

“(Women) bring that sort of perspective of knowing what the demands are that people are experiencing, and going beyond the problem and knowing it’s always deeper than what we're seeing.” — Aimee Cox

Despite encountering gender biases and the balancing act of personal and professional life, these women's resilience and leadership continue to drive NHHA forward. Their stories are not just narratives of success but lessons in courage, innovation, and advocacy.

Karin Kalk sums up the spirit driving their mission beyond the biases they experience:

“We really care about these vulnerable populations. We want to design better systems, and we're willing to fight the good fight to find a way to make it better.” — Karin Kalk

As we celebrate International Women's Day, NHHA's journey underscores the need for more inclusive and equitable systems championed by women leaders who dare to dream big, be fearless, and act boldly. Their vision for expanding NHHA's model nationwide reflects a future where healthcare and housing are accessible to all, a future shaped by the hands of women like Terry, Karin, and Aimee.

Their contributions not only pave the way for the next generation of female leaders, but also serve as a pillar of hope and innovation in healthcare and housing. Let's honor and learn from their leadership and vision, pushing boundaries and creating a more compassionate world.
